Sunday Smattering

I'm off to play the grocery game in a few minutes. 3 of my kids have actually asked to come with me. At least one has wanted to come the last few times, which pretty much stuns me, because I loathed grocery shopping as a kid. Well, except at the ironically named "Dairy Lane" in Hong Kong (which, as far as I know carried no dairy products other than Klim and some ice cream) where my sis and I would go upstairs and read books like The Joy of Sex, or Sphinx (a trashy novel about a woman with 6 breasts), tucked into a LIFE magazine.

Speaking of shopping that I loathe, my favourite jeans have blown up. I have 2 pairs and they both blew out at the knee last week. :-( The ones I'm wearing right now also have a rip at the corner of one of the bum pockets. I can tell, because MuNKi keeps sticking his finger in it. All of this means that eventually I'm going to have to suck it up and buy new jeans. Which is basically pure torture for me. I SO envy guys, who can fall in love with a pair of jeans and still be able to buy the same exact ones 30 years later. AND they can buy them to length. SO not fair. Sigh.

If only I could go upstairs and read smutty books while someone else bought my jeans for me. . .

UPDATE : I won again at the Grocery Game. Today's stats:

$280.64 worth of groceries for $97.51. Huzzah! I saved $183.13, which is close to twice as much as I spent! :-)

ok...where do you find your coupons???? You are a grocery queen!

I completely despise shopping for clothes, especially jeans. It's no fun At All.
Where do you get all those coupons anyway???

Slade and Claire

The coupons are almost all from the Sunday paper. They're the same across the country as far as I know. The only ones that are different are the "Catalinas" which are things that print out when you pay, like say you buy a Power Bar, so you get a coupon for $1 off Power bars for next time, or you buy milk and you get a Nesquick coupon or something. But I don't usually have many of those at all - 2 or 3 at the most - usually none.

Our Kroger doubles coupons that are worth up to 50 cents, and every now and then, they'll double those that are worth up to $1. (yee haw!) Most grocery stores have at least one or two coupon doubling days if they don't double all the time. If they don't have a sign up, any of the cashiers should be able to tell you when those days are. :)

Wish I could get a coupon for jeans. The kind I know I like (which I'm sure are no longer made :-p )

I HATE jean shopping!

I need to sign up for that grocery thing. I have it bookmarked and it is on my list of things to do, but sadly the grocery store I normally go to isn't on their list.

The money you can save at that game is astounding. We used to play it. Technically, it's the only game I've every played where you could consider me a winner. Admit it, you aren't surprised at that, huh?

Tori - I had signing up for it on my to do list for more than a year. :-P That stinks that your store isn't on their list. They're adding new ones all the time, though, so maybe it will be soon. :)

Michael - I had you pegged as a wiener from the start. Oops! I mean a winner! ^_^ So did you win so much that they just give you the groceries without making you pay now?

Some places sell women's jeans in length, but they're expensive :( I like Gap jeans a lot of the time, but more importantly, why are you wearing your knees out so quickly, hm??

I have always loved grocery shopping. It's my favourite sport.

Kitkat - Har! Good question! ^_^ Expensive is a bummer. Especially if I'm gonne be wearing out the knees. ^_^ But I didn't know they sold ANY to length. I wonder if that will catch on in my lifetime. . .

Jay - As long as it doesn't become a full-contact sport. . . ^_^
