So birdies, do you come here often? What do you think of turtles? Do you like cookies?

These are great! How close did you get?

Egan - look at you chatting up the birds. ^_^

Jay - thanks. :) I was actually inside the house about 15 or 20 feet away. I should post the originals before the cropping/zooming for comparison. I ♥ my camera. ^_^

What kind of birds are those? They are much prettier than the robins I only ever see around here. We get the occasional cardinal or blue jay (blue jay are mean and like to torment my cat) and we have a lot of those creepy black shiny birds (those things are so gross!), but I've never seen any like these in my neck of the woods.

WHY are rose-breasted and pine grosbeaks so much sweeter than those cranky evening grosbeaks?

Our goldfinches haven't changed color yet. :(

Amanda - The red, black and white is a rose breasted grosbeak and the yellow guy is a male goldfinch. I do love our pretty birds here. :) Are the creepy black ones grackles? They make me laugh.

Tshsmom - I don't think we get the evening grosbeaks here. I've never heard of them before.

They haven't changed yet? Yikes! MN really is the tundra. :)

You're lucky!! My Dad has nicknamed them YBs (yellow bastards)! They're marked similar to goldfinches. YBs are crabby, noisy, and travel in flocks. They'll clean you out of seed in 5 minutes flat!

We had an albino goldfinch last year. We're waiting to see if he returns this year.

I like the little black and red guys - haven't seen them here. We do have the goldfinches who are really bright - colourwise that is.

This year we've had a lot of blue jays around and they make a hell of a racket.

I love watching the birds at my bird feeders! Bluejays get a bad rap. They are often molested by other birds. Once I saw one get carried off by a hawk. Another time a group of brown towhees ganged up on a young one and beat him up. I shooed them away and resued the jay, but I thought he was dead. Did he pass out from the trauma? Who knows? Within ten minutes he recovered sufficiently to fly away. Love your bird pics!

Birdies, you never did tell me your sign? I'm a recent birthday boy and would love to get to know you better. Birdies, hold me.

Just looking at those grackles makes me shudder (seriously, the blueish black that's just all shiny?). I think I see those and just regular crows around here. They're like those nasty shiny bugs that you see in an entomologists display and seriously creep me out.

Tshsmom - I guess we ARE lucky! :) Although the raccoons are like vaccum cleaners if we put too much seed in. We try to put in only enough to last the day on the feeder they can reach. I think they were climbing the shepherd's hook again last night to try to get into the thistle and safflower feeders. :-P

Did you take any pics of the albino? I bet he was cool!

TG - this is the first place I've lived that had grosbeaks. At least that came around our house. Yeah, some of those goldfinches are so bright they almost hurt your eyes. :) We have a few blue jays. Racket is right!

Claire - I think the jays are striking. I really like them in spite of their rep. Your poor jay! I'm glad he recovered. :)

Egan - I think they are all Serpentarius. ^_^

Amanda - LOL! Just think if Hitchcock had made The Birds with grackles. ^_^

I looked at the pic and said,
"Ooooo, birdies!"
Mr. Logo came over and started talking about species and stuff.
Then he asked me something about goldfinches or something and I said,
"Oooo, birides!"

I like "birdies" more. All trees are trees therefore birds must suffer too.

Logo - LOL! And with "birdies" you can never be wrong. Unless it's a hummingbird moth. ^_^

Egan - But surely a dude with a forestry degree talks of tree species at some point? Tell me, how big does a paper birch get? I've been offered one and am inclined to take it. :)
