I Shaved Your Wife

The weekend was pretty stressful due to getting Mollusc off to college and all.  With the flurry of last minute buying, one of the things that struck me was how FREAKING expensive razor blade cartridges are! O_O  I always used to use Venus, but I just couldn't justify spending that much anymore, so I switched to Soleil.  To be honest, the shave isn't as nice can be brutal (Wolverine victim cosplay, anyone?), and the blades are hard to find.  Adding insult to (actual) injury, they're not even that much cheaper, but I'm too stubborn to cave and go back to Venus.  Plus, there's no breathable atmosphere.

Today I was browsing Pinterest and sipping my ginger tea (as one does) and I came across the ad for Shave Club.  I'd seen their page before, had been intrigued by their whole smart, straightforward outlook, and just generally liked the concept of going Rogue (see what I did thar?), so today I clicked on the pin to check it out in detail.  First of all, the ad cracked me up:

As someone with an advertising degree, I'm pretty jaded about most commercials.  I usually find something to critique, and consequently spend more time thinking about what's wrong with the ad than what the actual product was.  So when I see one that really makes me like a product, I do take notice.

Then, when I looked at what it would cost, I was sold!  The girls and I will split the first package (I did order an extra handle) to see how we like them.  And I think we'll end up changing frequency to less often than once per month because I'm cheap thrifty and try to squeeze every last dying breath out of my razors.  I also added a bottle of repair serum because Sluggie gets razor burn on her legs (possibly because of my thriftiness) and my old toner trick hasn't worked for her.  I'll let you know how it goes when our package arrives!

If you decide to try it, you can click the link below to shower me with money!  Actually, it will give me and the girls a $5 credit, so think of it as shaving a needy college student if you like.  Wow.  That's a bit disturbing.  Forget I said that.  Yeah, I've been reduced to whoring out my blog for free razors.  What was in that tea?

Shave me from myshelf!

A Fungus Among Us

Whose woods these are, I think I know

because they're right behind my house.

When in the woods, every Boy must have a Stick.

The object of today's search:

And another example:

We also happened upon the scene of a grisly murder:

It looked as if some ghoulish thing had been decorating for Christmas.

If you care to peek, you'll see a beak (or at least half of one.)

All around the site, Nature went on as if nothing had happened.

Though the apartment dwellers were wise enough to stay indoors.

We decided to leave that world,

and venture into Eldemoss

a magical place of bridges and sacred pools

and corndogs growing wild.

But all too soon it was time to cross the dead marshes

and leave that world for our own.

I'll leave you with a picture of another fun guy (on my thigh.) His name is Bruce.

Isis, Isis, Ra, Ra, Ra!

OK, so I go on Raï kicks now and then. This is another of my favourite songs. I think this vid is better than the original, which IMNSHO looks like a disjointed 80s attempt at a commercial that can't make up its mind between Jaguar and Vegas.

Cheb Khaled (singing "Aicha" below) and Cheb Mami (accompanying in this song) are both Raï singers. You can learn more about Raï here. Or not.

As for the title, no, there's not really a direct correlation. The vid just kind of steered my thoughts in that direction.

Picturesque

Two bees

or

not two bees

Wheeze the juice, bud-DY! (LMK if you catch THAT obscure reference ^_^ )

Yeah, I like bees

and attempting to freeze them mid-flight.

going to get Mollusc's ears pierced -- a little nervous

a little jealous :)

a little more nervous

"One. . . Two. . . FIVE!"

Happy :)

more not Susans

a random sticky note I found that I suspect was written by The Prawn, given the subject matter

I thought that MuNKi was insufficiently Star Wars Geeky until he surprised us with this. OK, he's still not all that Star Wars Geeky, but he sure knows how to make those of us who ARE very, very happy! ^_^

I found this particularly amusing, given one of the suggestions for Diesel's caption contest this week. ^_^

Utah is still morphing.

I used a random stripping technique my friend's mom showed us for this one.

I love the Autumn leaves fabric in the borders on this one. I keep finding myself drawn to fabrics by a couple of designers, even when I have no clue who did them.

Seeing a theme in fabrics here?

one of my faves

I have some four patch and nine patch blocks, too, but all those pics had some digital funkitivity going on.

And finally, the first book I chose at the library book sale yesterday. I cannot freaking believe they had this, or that it was even made. Some of you may remember my discussion of how the kids like to watch this movie when MuNKi is out of town -- primarily (I suspect) because our tradition is to start it at midnight, and it's a three hour movie. ^_^ Perhaps we'll be uploading some more YouTubes soon. . .

Harroin

I dislike drug references. They make me uncomfortable. But I like puns too much to pass up on this title. :-P ^_^

The new Harry is stinking great so far. We bought another copy at Sam's today and things work like this:

Mollusc reads one. Sluggie reads one. I commandeer one, read a chapter or two and give it back, then go steal the other one, read a chapter or two and give it back. I convince Sluggie to play a computer game while I read another chapter or two. I convince her she's having too much fun to quit and read some more. I finally return it and send Mollusc to the shower, stealing her book as soon as she she sets it down.

This book does not have any slow places so far. It's addictive. But to be nice (and here is where you must award me Mother of the Year or perhaps Century) I prise the book from my hand and allow the girls to take it to bed while MuNKi and I watch a movie. This is not easy. This is painful. I find myself shaking and delirious. Is that a dementor in the corner? Hermione is giggling and waving at me from the other couch. She wants me to go and get the book back. No! I can do this!

Who am I kidding? No I can't. Accio book! Accio book! Why isn't it working? Accio book dammit!!

I struggle through the Russell Crowe film. The trembling won't stop and Russell doesn't look nearly as hot as usual. Jeff doesn't get nearly enough lines. That guy who's in everything these days appears, and his wistful ogling of Christie's bum almost distracts me, but I can feel myself sliding back into that pit of desperation. I need the book. Nothing is good without the book. The book makes everything sharper, brighter, and better-smelling.

The stupid film doesn't have a blooper reel. WTF is wrong with directors these days?! How am I supposed to keep going like this? There are 3 Russell Crowe music vids on the menu, and a desperate mashing of buttons on the remote produces 3 songs with pretty good melody, rather decent singing and crap lyrics. Oh the humanity!

One of those kids had better be asleep by now. That's all I can say.

What a Waist

Thank God there is some justice in the world. (though apparently there is at least one justice too many)

I can't get over this Pearson guy. You know -- the judge who sued the dry cleaners for $54 million after they allegedly lost his pants? The second pair of pants in as many visits, it turns out, Pearson having been compensated $150 and banned from the store after the first incident. But he weasled his way back in, much to the detriment of store owners Jin and Soo Chung.

According to the article, on the witness stand, Pearson broke down in tears and had to take a break from his testimony because he became too emotional while questioning himself about his experience with the missing trousers.

O_o

Pearson [who continually referred to himself as "we"] testified that Chung insisted [she had found his pants], saying, "These are your pants."

Pearson then rushed from the courtroom, overcome with emotion.
The judge ruled Pearson must pay the defendants' court costs, which amount to about $1,000. Bartnoff said she would consider at a later date whether to make Pearson also pay the Chungs' attorneys fees, which make up the larger portion of their legal fees.

I hope he loses his shirt as well.

Good Fun that is Funny

Well, I've had my fun, and I think quite a few of you enjoyed the page. And now, for your further edification, I present this fascinating article, which my sister sent in an attempt to disabuse me of the notion that water is harmful. (I can never keep a straight face in person, but I can through email ^_^ )

After our 70-some degree Tuesday, we had snow yesterday. There's still a dusting of it out there. Jack Frost can bite me. To quote Morticia Addams (upon turning the page in The Cat in the Hat) "Oh no. He lives."

Snacks for the Soul

So many times I think of just blowing the blog in place, LOL! In lieu of that (I seem to say that a lot) I give you some food for your soul. Take and eat if you are hungry.

The Sacred Bedroom

The Spirit of the Home (if you like this one, she's done more)

Everyday Sacred (Gawpo, even though you're not a chick, this one makes me think of you. She's a potter, for one thing. Dunno whether she's hairy or not, though. ^_^)

Frustration Station

Blargh!!!

Have you ever tried to use Adobe Premier Elements? I suspect that my 'puter hasn't got the horsepower to keep up with things. The timeline says my slideshow is going on track with the music, but the vid isn't in synch. Well, sometimes it is.
MuNKi "rendered" an earlier version for me (no, I have no idea what he did with the digital fat, nor do I want to) and everything was copasetic, so I'm pressing on with glory. HOO rah! (That's for my squidly readers. Of which there are none AFAIK. Oh well. Maybe it will trickle into Mr. Logo's ears.)

Today was co-op day, so we are fruity and vegetably once more. And my shea butter lotion stuff came in, so maybe my hands will stop sloughing off. I'm down to about 85% of my original hands. OK, maybe not quite that bad, but winter is hard on the appendages.

Short post, because I'm going to finish this vid if it kills me. I want to burn a DVD of it for my mom. And I think my sis will like it, too. (Think she'll trade me for the new Getaway Drivers' album?) Plus, I'll probably inflict it on you guys so that I can figure out how to YouTube stuff. Aren't you excited now? It's Joe's fault. He called me a mogul and it went to my head. So far it's proving to be a bumpy ride. ;) (please put the gun down now)
