Tag, I'm it!

Sighsofmylife tagged me with the "5 songs you'd want played at your funeral" meme.

Well, first off, that's assuming I do someday shuffle off this mortal coil. In the event that this should actually happen (and I have my doubts, but I may be surprised in the end) I don't want a funeral, per se. I'd much rather that if folks were going to get together in my memory, that they'd remember how much I like to laugh and just have a big ol' party. Solemnity does not become me, and I rarely become solemn, so a funeral just would not be in keeping with the "spirit" of me. (ha ha)

OK, so the first one that leaps to mind is:

1)
Pipes, by The Boondock Saints

Bagpipes, guitar, very upbeat, pseudo-Irish - what's not to love? Let the drinking begin!

2) The
Night Pat Murphy Died, by Great Big Sea.

This is a funny song, and should be accompanied by more adult beverages. By now people are loosened up enough for plenty of heartfelt stomping and dancing.

3)
Save the Last Dance for Me, Michael Bublé version

Time to let folks catch their breath just a little, but again, it's an upbeat, hopeful song, a dancing song, and
GuTTer MuNKi will appreciate my other intentions for using this. ;)

4)
Another Irish Drinking Song, by DaVinci's Notebook (It's in small type beside the brontosaurus picture, sandwiched between "Enema Countdown" and "Enormous Penis." )

Guaranteed to make everyone laugh, throw up, pass out, wake up again and drink it all once more. This one's so much fun, I have to post all the lyrics:

Another Irish Drinking Song

Gather ’round, ye lads and lasses, set ye for a while
And hearken to me mournful tale about the Emerald Isle
Let’s all raise our glasses high to friends and family gone
And lift our voices in another Irish drinking song

Consumption took me mother and me father got the pox
Me brother drank the whiskey ’til he wound up in a box
Me other brother in the Troubles met with his demise
Me sister has forever closed her smiling Irish eyes

CHORUS

Now everybody’s died
So until our tears are dried
We’ll drink and drink and drink and drink, and then we’ll drink some more
We’ll dance and sing and fight until the early morning light
Then we’ll throw up, pass out, wake up, and then go drinking once again

Kenny was killed in Kilkenny and Claire, she died in Clare
Tip from Tipperary died out in the Derry air
Shannon jumped into the River Shannon back in June
Ernie fell into the Erne, and Tom is in the Toome

“Cleanliness is godliness” me Uncle Pat would sing
He broke his neck a’slippin’ on a bar of Irish Spring
O’Grady, he was 80 though his bride was just a pup
He died upon the honeymoon when she got his Irish up

CHORUS

Joe Murphy fought with Reilly near the cliffss of old Doneen
He took out his shillelagh and he stabbed him in the spleen
Well, Crazy Uncle Mike believed he was a leprechaun , but in fact he’s just a leper, and his arms and legs are gone
When Timmy Johnson broke his neck it was a cryin’ shame
He wasn’t really Irish, but he went to Notre Dame
McNamara crossed the street and by a bus was hitBut he was just a Scotsman, so nobody gave a sh-(OCHHHH!)

CHORUS
Me drunken Uncle Brendan tried to drive home from the bar
The road rose up to meet him when he fell out of his car
Irony was what befell my great-grand Uncle Sam
He choked upon the very last potato in the land

Conor lived in Ulster town, he used to smuggle arms
Until the British killed him and cut off his lucky charms
And dear old Father Flanagan, who left the lord’s employ
Drunk on sacramental wine, beneath the altar boy

CHORUS
(slower)

Someday soon I’ll leave this world of pain and toil and sin
The Lord will take me by the hand to join all of me kin
Me only wish is when the Savior comes for me and you
(a tempo)
He kills the cast of Riverdance, and Michael Flatley too
CHORUS (2x)

5) My last slot. This is always the tough part, isn't it? I thought of a song I got from Winters, "J'ai quitte mon pays" but it's too melancholy for this, beautiful though it is. I thought of "So Long, Jimmy" by James Blunt, but it's not quite bouncy enough, either. Oooh, I know!

"It's the End of the World as We Know It" by Great Big Sea. Heh! That ought to about wrap things up. What about you?

I think I'd have five songs about masturbation played. I've never heard about f*cking going in in either Heaven of Hell, so a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...

Classic! Now the challenge is actually finding 5 songs about masturbation. Think you can pull it off. ;-)

Uhhh, can't remember the names of particular songs right now..actually kinda sleepy, sorry.

I like that last song you picked, makes me think of Tommy Boy, when they sing it and mess up and forget the words, good times, good times.

How do you know Great Big Sea?
Hahah, they played at my university so often we used to joke that they had their own office in the Student Union building.
Hahah. But they are heaps of fun.

I'm not having a funeral. I hope that I can leave enough money for my family and friends to have a last party in my honor....laugh, drink, remember me fondly...be happy that I'm in a better place. If so inclined, they can play my old 70s records as background music.
