Information Saturday

I started this last Sunday and never finished it. My apologies.

Cazzie asked about the sites I used to re-teach myself to crochet. Crochet Cabana is the one I found most helpful for Granny Squares. (scroll down until you see Granny Squares in one of those boxes on the left - kind of a confusing web page layout IMO) But I thought they were kinda sucky for the single and double crochet stuff because they don't show you the first row. They still show you how to make the stitches just fine, but I'm one of those "Show me everything, Dammit!" people. Needless to say, Origami instructions are not my cup of tea. ( 1- flat piece of paper, 2- now it's folded in half 3- a bunch of curvy arrows "showing" you what to do and now it looks like a swan) For the stitch refreshers, I preferred some random pages I found at About.com. (which, of course, I can't re-find.) I see now, though, that you can type just about any crochet stitch into YouTube and get a video showing you just how to do it. Cool! (I'm a very visual person.)

And this is the buckeye recipe I use. There are lots of other yummy things there, too. ^_^

Thanks for the recipe link! We didn't make peanut butter balls this last Christmas. Mr. ARM was a little sad so I might make some of these for him when I get started with my candy making this summer (I'm entering my homemade fudge in the fair, too).

Hope you have a great weekend!

gosh I haven't crocheted or knitted in years... wonder if I've still got the needle(s).

The recipe sounds decidedly wicked and naughty and scrumptious... too too fattening for a lardy like me.

Hope the ankle is getting stronger everyday.

lotsa luv ann xxxx

Awesome, thanks soo much for the informative site, I will get down to business this week and buy a crochet kit. I can't wait to get started.
Ohh, recipe....I have to provide a recipe to put in my little girl's kindergarten Mother's Day Recipe Book..complete with her little drawings all over it :)

I used an awesome CD rom made by the Red Heart yarn company. It was a whole kit that came with a hook, yarn, pattern, and the cd.

I wish I could remember the name of it. I'm sure if someone was interested, they could put "crochet kit" into Ebay to find it (that's how I found it).

It was the best thing I found out there to teach me how to do the various stitches.

Hi Candace! I didn't understand anything in this post!

I'm definitely one of those people that has to have someone show me how to do something in person. I tried learning to knit by reading a book, and I could not for the life of me get it! It took a good friend 5 minutes to get me going...I'm a kenestetic learner

Amanda - Oooh, fuuuuuuuudge!

Ann - the pb balls are definitely not diet food, but oh, so yummy! But lardy? Ha! I've seen pics - you're no lardy. :) My ankle is definitely still improving, thanks! :)

Cazzie - that sounds like it's going to be a cute book. Those are always so fun to read: "cook at 3000 degrees for about 12 hours." ^_^

Dawn - that sounds like a cool kit. I really need pics and demos to learn stuff like this. The Teach Yourself Visually book is GREAT for me.

Diesel - I'll try to make my next post more Diesel-friendly. :)

Slade - you might like the "teach yourself visually" books, too. Though it's hard to beat YouTube. :)

Logo - Me, too. Lots and lots of them.

Egan - how about doughs? Muahahahaha!

OMG! Don't ya just love Penzey's ?
They have the best stuff. I buy all my spices, vanilla, hot chocolate from them. I've wanted to try the buckeye recipe for years now (yellowed copy in my bread box). I love the recipes in their catalog.

Yes, I love pastries too.

Claire - Yes!! I only buy Penzey's now. ^_^ We got spoiled living in WI (where they started) but we got lucky because they opened one here about a year or so ago. :)

Egan - and pasties, no doubt. ^_^
