A Last Gasp

A breath before dying. Or something.

I went with a friend to the teeny tiny little local co-op today and it rocks! I'll be joining for sure. There were a bunch of homeschooled kids there and the mom of one of the homeschooled TKD students was there as well. Crunchy peeps, all. Like minds, I guess. Tons of organic goodness. Good prices, too.

I'm entering "holy-crap-the-test-is-upon-me" mode, which means a bit of stress, though not manifesting in much other than less patience than usual with the little muNKis. This actually gave me the idea of setting a timer for their dinner clean-up activities, the idea being that if they beat the clock, they could stay up and read, and if not, it was lights-out. This idea was so successful that it will be employed for the rest of time as we know it. It was such an improvement on the usual dilly-dally-and-bicker fest that I stand (or sit) amazed.

Red-belt class kind of kicked my bum, and all I can think about is that tomorrow will be hours of it. Hours.

I have a bath waiting. I plan to sit in it and rest my aching (yet strangely restless) thigh muscle (yes only one thigh :-P ) and read Eragon because GLORY HALLELUJIA (Jaffar), I have finished the final existing Thomas Covenant book. I could study the curriculum more, but I seem to know all the answers (ha ha) , so the only danger is that I might freeze up under pressure. So far that hasn't been an issue for me. But now I've jinxed myself. Crap.

I am nervous, but not gut-wrenchingly so, since there's nothing I can do about it. I am extremely hopeful that GuTTer MuNKi will make it all the way through without his injured whatsit (front upper leg tendony or ligamenty sort of thing) taking him out. I had a dream last night that we had begun the test and it had fizzled spectacularly after only 30 or 40 kicks because either GuTTer MuNKi had a blowout or the white belt who will test with us couldn't breathe. It was a huge letdown because I felt I hadn't really earned my belt. Then I realised that we hadn't even broken boards or GOTTEN new belts and I was just confused at that point.

Tonight's dreams will likely only be wierder. I do hope to see you again.

PS I am informed by my beloved that James Bond has already kicked the respective asses of all previous Bonds to date in box office take. So here's where I get to say how smart I am about these things. [/I-told-you-soing]

Daniel Craig is ABSolutely fabulous. I might even be able to coerce Mrs. Lessinges to see the movie.

Do you shop regularly at co-ops? You're crunchy? I still have so much to learn about you.

I hope the bath is treating you well.

Oh, good one! :) Yes ABSolutely delicious. This really is one for the big screen. I hope you can convince Mrs. Monkey.

I would like to shop regularly at co-ops, but until I found this one, it wasn't a realistic option. In Madison we used to hit the Willy St. Co-op and it has a cousin in Ann Arbor (they appear to be part of a thinly disguised chain.) The one in AA is too pricey for us. This one, however, is pretty decent on most stuff. It's a true co-op -just a collection of families who got together for buying power, and is run out of someone's sod barn with no employees to pay. You check yourself out on the honour system and leave your tally sheet and check in a box on the front desk. There are also quite a few catalogs from which you can order all kinds of goodies at wholesale prices.

I will answer the crunchy question with part of a test answer:

Tae guk Ee Jang represents Tae which symbolises the inner firmness and the outer softness. But C represents frugal, symbolising a crunchy exterior with a possibly soft inner core.

My bath was lovely, thank you. And my dreams did not appear to be any stranger than normal. As far as I can remember. T-5 hours and counting.

The timer thing works quite well for us with Z's schooling. We started with 5 min and have worked up to 15 min of steady concentration. Not bad for an ADD kid!

You'll do just fine - looking forward to hear about your success.

Hi Can. I havent stopped by in a while and just wanted to say hello.

Hug the kids for me :)

Cindra - Ha! :) Yes, I like this new, darker direction because IMO that's who Bond should really be. I think that to some extent Brosnan was hampered by the scripts. His Thomas Crown would have made a much better Bond than his Bonds.

Tshsmom - That's awesome! :) Timers are a wonderful tool. You reminded me that I used to set a timer for my stepson's math and after half an hour, if he wasn't done, I'd have him get up and run a few laps around the house and then sit down again. It's amazing how much that helped to clear his head and prevent stagnation.

TG - thanks! :) Story to follow.

Arm - Thank you. :) I love the gerbil (or "kangaroo mouse") one, LOL!

Bos - Hey! Great to see you! I'm loving your new avatar. :)

That's EXACTLY what we do Candace; either a jog around the yard, or calisthenics! This helps Z release his tics, so he can concentrate for another 15 minutes.
We're hoping that we can work up to 30 minutes. Right now 15 minutes is as long as he can go.

I hope the test went well. I also have weird dreams about what's going on in my life. It's bad when I dream about work because I wake up feeling like I've worked an 8-hour shift while sleeping.

Tshsmom - It's funny how it helps to clear the brain, isn't it? I'm just glad we figured it out. The poor kids in school never get a chance for that kind of stuff.

Jaichan - I hate waking up exhausted from bizarre dreams. :-/ I hate even more when I wake up and think I've only just put my head down and find it/s really time to get up. Thankfully, that's only happened to me a couple of times.

Alrighty, T-5 is over. I want to hear all about the new Bond flick. Was it worth it? Will Mrs. Lessinges be entertained? Keep in mind she doesn't generally enjoy action flicks.

Thank you the co-op explanation. That helps fill in some blanks about you. I still have more to learn, but appreciate you sharing. Oh, you are NOT crunchy best on the test question. Thanks for playing.

Crunchy best?

Fuck, I have no idea what I was trying to say. "Crunchy Best" sounds like a new and improved cereal formula.

C said...

Pff! :) At best, maybe?

It does, indeed, sound cerealesque. Like "Quarry" or "Colon Blow." Or maybe like a Japanese cereal's Engrish advertising slogan.

I cna't fill you in on Jimmy Bomb yet because I haven't yet gone. T-5 was for testing. Bomb isn't until tomorrow, or, the way things are going, some other day. :-P (MuNKi has work crises to deal with)

Perhaps "drunkenly uttered" was appropriate for your crunchY best comment. ^_^

sqwmy It's ALMOST a word!
