Old Dogs, New Tricks

"I can't wait to go to the dentist."

These words were uttered by the 6 year old Boy today, I shit you not. The Prawn was awfully fired up, too. All four went. All four had fantastic check-ups. We blasted our eardrums out on the way to and from Ann Arbor listening to The Killers and singing along. It was a gorgeous, beautiful, amazing, wonderful, perfect summer day. " Hallelujah Jaffar!" Can I have an "amen!"?

I love Michigan. It's beautiful here. I need to take the camera along when we drive places, so I can show you all how everything on the way to everywhere is tree-lined and stunning, but I suppose that eventually I'd wreck the car trying to drive and snap simultaneously (and in rapid succession - that's for you She-Ra. And I want to talk to you for more than 12.5 seconds sometime, dammit.)

Here's my pseudo-inspirational thing for the day: it's never too late to learn a new skill. Or multiple ones. ;-) And the more you practice, of course, the better you get at it. (Hallelujah Jaffar!!)

If I sound all smiley, it's because I am.

One of the Saturdays this weekend (we counted the 4 day weekend as 3 Sats and a Sun) we went to Main Street in Ann Arbor, which is rather reminiscent of State St. in Madison, though a lot shorter, and with cars. There are lots of little restaurants and interesting shops tending toward artsy, New Age, etc. As we passed one of the Irish Pubs (come back, She-Ra - you could score Navan so many gigs here it's not even funny) I noticed a tiny little door set into the the door of the shop next door. There was a little sill in front of it, at the bottom, which had some coins on it. Turns out it's a "fairy door" and there are several around town. We'll have to look them up. How handy to have a list of locations on that page.

I got dibs on another review book, so hopefully that will be coming soon.

Tonight we watched - hmm. I don't know what it was called. I grabbed it at the library. Ah, found it - The Recruit. Eh. It was interesting but had at least one major problem. And lately I can call everything about an hour before it happens, more by formula than by actual clues given, so, eh - a good one-time view, but doesn't invite repeat viewing.

The Boondock Saints (in case you missed the link the first time), on the other hand, is an awesome script and I appreciate it more every time I see it. In Nomeni Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti.

Make me want to go to the dentist.

I'm 37 and I've never had a cavity, but I still would never say "I can't wait to go to the dentist."

The dentist? Why?

Toby, I wish I could go to their dentist. I had to get a couple fillings one time and other than that have no other cavities. But the hygenists at my dentist are brutal. I'm jumping ship, though. I just got some great referrals (all to the same guy) from friends today.

Egan, NO no no no no! Not the dentist. And before you ask, not the fairy doors or the Boondock Saints (oh Yummy!!! I wouldn't mind) or Jaffar, either. Tell me, do you find 2X4s subtle?? ;-) It does help to read more than the first sentence, though.

The beauty is what keeps us in northern MN, despite the hardships!
Our dentist recently retired and I'm having a hard time getting one of the other 3 dentists to take us. We need more dentists up here!

I never minded going to the dentist. Maybe because I've never had a cavity. I know, I'm 33 and cavity free. Well, in the teeth at least.

I'm just like Jaichan sans the cool French accent.

TSMom - I was going to make a crack about the giant teeth leeping all MN dentists busy. (your avatar) But nothing is coming to me. :-P

Jai - HAHAHA!! In the teeth! Good one!!

Egan - I thought you had a cool French accent. Or is it ubercool? You sound French from here. OK, I'm just trying to get on your good side, You really sound like a monkey. (and you smell like one, too)

I thought you were trying to get on my good side.

Oops. Slip of the tongue. Though that's not always a bad thing. }:-)

Um, I hung out more laundry on the line???

You and your sexual references today. Are you horned out or something?

C said...

Maybe.

Or it could be that I always am and that you took this long to catch on to the plethora of references.

The Boondock Saints has been following me around lately. People just keep bringing it up and saying things like, "I can't believe you haven't seen it!" Now I feel like I should avoid seeing it at all costs just to piss off Fate.

Man, you've given birth to some weird kids. :-)

I have a number of cavities as I date from the time before we discovered dentistry so envy my cavity free kids. Did you slip them a little alcocholic whatsisname to get them to go so blithely?

Actually its been gorgeous weather down here last couple of days. Always makes you feel merrier.

Yes, Kitkat, you should DEFINITELY avoid seeing it, because they are BOTH MINE!!!! ALL MINE!!!! And do NOT watch the deleted scene where they are naked. Do NOT lool at their fine asses, because they are MINE, I tell you! OK, I'll share if you really want. . .

TG - it's true - very strange offspring. Their dentist is ubercool. Maybe I'll pretend to be a very weathered teen and try to get in. I see some old "kids" going there, and don't blame them a whit for milking the chance.

Hasn't the weather been sublime? Well, a pocket rocket helps, too. }:-)

I can't leave my dentist. He has a talent for causing great pain.
