I Wonder

Sometimes we just lie there, so trusting and naiive.

Never for a moment guessing who's out there.

Preying.

Watching.

Once again, fantastic pictures Candace.

Is it just me, or is the mantis looking at you in the 3rd picture and saying in his best DeNiro "Are you looking at me? Are YOU looking at ME?"

Oh, it's just me?

Right on.

Did you take that fabulous
photo of the green eyes mantis?

What lens did you use?
What camera?

I love that photo - he is
LOOKING at me...
whoooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Thanks, Efo. :) I do it all for you.

Haha, SleepyD! That's exactly what he's saying. He creeped me out a bit. I mean, I didn't expect him to attack or anything (OK, well, he did actually launch himself at Mollusc. Yikes!) but I was worried about those arm spikes, having read my share of Gerald Durrell books. :-P I figured if he decided I was a good launch tower, I really didn't wan't to be involved. Plus, the way they swivel their heads on their necks is just - you know, I don't mind bugs for the most part, but they shouldn't have necks, so that's sorta creepy. There were several of us adults out there and we were all giving him a pretty wide berth, LOL! They way they turn to look at you is just so very predatory.

Sophie, thanks. I did. :) I used a Canon Digital Rebel XT. The lens is a Canon zoom EF 28-105mm. I love this setup. :)

Passing thru looking for breakfast. Hmmmm, not quite sure you had a kitty or a preying mantis for breakfast. But, one never knows-do one?

Candace, you have to go back to that b-fast club thing...I was 'chatting' with you over there...

I think you're lying Candace, but I won't take it personally.

~d - If it came down to a fight, I'm not sure who'd win - me, mult-toed kitty or preying mantis! D'oh! I'll get back after lunch. :)

Efo, I think of you often as I'm selecting and cropping my pics. So even if I don't do it ALL for you, I do quite a but of it for you. But that doesn't sound as impressive. . .

egan said...

Nope, not nearly as impressive. It's okay... I still feel the love.

And every single kitty picture is JUST for you.

I went for a run one day in Memphis and came across one of those things, he was HUGE!! I leaped over him, then stopped and spent a lot of time jumping back and forth so he wouldn't look at me and poking him with a leaf. Oh, didn't hurt him, I swear, I just wanted to gently prod him to see if he'd move anything other than his creepy head.

C said...

Haha!! Yes, creepy head is exactly it, LOL! Fascinating. But creepy. Hey - that describes Egan, too! (JK, Efo!)

Hang on, I thought the kitty pics were for ME!!
I sure as heck don't want the mantis pics, ack!
He is amazingly cool looking, but I want him at a nice distance.
very nice pics, ma'am.
Yellow paperclips are all the rage around here too.
October 13th!!!!

YESSSSssss! Oct. 13th! We're thinking of having a partay, but the bigs and MuNKi and I have red belt classes, so maybe a "non-13th" party on the 14th. . .

(Shh, the Kitty pics are for you, but I tell Egan they're for him so I don't hurt his fragile monkey feelings. Don't let on. He's so volatile and emotionally unstable and needs gentle handling.)

He is amazingly cool looking, but I want him at a nice distance

Yes, I think we all feel that way about Efo. . .

Don't be so sure. Mantis' are meat eaters. This is a pic I made from a Mantis eating a small bird. Sorry, I don't have the original.

C said...

Ha! GREAT picture, Toby! We saw one eating a honey bee, but I had no idea they'd go after a bird. One of Gerry Durrell's stories decribes a fight he witnessed in his room between a gecko and a praying mantis. I *think* the gecko won, but it wasn't an easy fight.

My name is getting mentioned often in the comments. I'm getting paranoid.

C said...

Is it paranoia if it's justafiable?

Methinks perhaps not. (Arrrrr!)

egan said...

You raise a good point Candace.

C said...

How the hell did we get to 20 comments on a 19 word post?

Jay said...

I'm pretty sure I can take him.

egan said...

Simple, I comment often. Short posts are easy to read and can sometimes stimulate more conversation. If you leave it up long enough, you could get 40 comments on your 19 word post.

~d said...

I will totally email you tonight! I think I may have an idea!
OOOHHHH!
See ya!

Oh crap, Tildé has an idea. That's never a good thing. I'm thinking it's some sort of perversion excursion.

C said...

I bet you could Jay. As long as he didn't launch himself at your face. There's nothing quite like a huge insect clinging to one's face to strike terror into the hearts of even the bravest. I think.

Egan, I have considered doing pure picture posts for the likes of you. OK, well just for you. Isn't that text sucker the coolest thing? (post to follow for those unfmailiar with the text sucker)

~d - Ooooh!!! Ler 'er rip! :)

Egan, au contraire, mon frère. It's bound to be fascinating. ~d is my kinda girl! :)

egan said...

Yep, I think you and Tildé have very similar thoughts. Comment number twenty-six.

C said...

Yep, that Tilde is a cool chick. :) But how did she get naked pictures of you?

27, then? That *is* kind of impressive.
