Graphic Indifference

That's today's label as it applies to the way I feel about finishing A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I'm on page 631. There are 979 pages total. The book is due at the library today and I can't renew it online any longer (the jig is up.) The librarians are kind and know me, and will most likely renew it if I ask them to. They've even overriden holds by other people for me (shhh.) But do I want to?

Ehhhhhh

Yeah, ask the librarians again. It probably makes them feel naughty and they enjoy breaking the rules. OK, that sounded a little different than how I intended it to sound. Perhaps it was the use of the word naughty...

"Naughty" is such a great word. I think you've inspired my next smut story: The Naughty Librarian.

Thanks. ^_^

Oh I have such a hard time not finishing a book. THe last time I did it was in 2004 with I, Claudius. And nothing personal against Claudius, I was just in a "mood" and couldn't get into it, but I still have guilt and as a result I have diligently read every piece of crap I have started since.

Jay - That's exactly where I am with this. TKD commandment #10 happens to be "always finish what you start." :-P It's not even that this is crap. I've just had too much of it. I did end up renewing it (sans my card, even, LOL!) and got back into it today. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) as always happens with this series, just when I was fed up, something fascinating happened, LOL! I have a very hard not finishing books, but I did quit The Red Badge of Courage when re-reading it a few yrs ago, because, honestly, the book could be done in maybe 70 pages or less. And Blindness was just sooooooo cliche and predictable that I couldn't bear it, either. The others I've never finished: Heidi (despite mutiple attempts) and Anne of Green Gables (whom I'd like to throttle.)

Books I finished but wish I hadn't:

The Catcher in the Rye for the first AND second times (Thought maybe I'd missed something. I was wrong. I want my hours back, please) and Wuthering Heights - the most hours wasted on an audiobook EVER. :-P

And every single book I was assigned in Russian Lit as well. :-/

Ooooh, that does sound not-tay...

Ugh! No fair! Can you come sweet talk my librarians for me? I SO need that kind of break, lol!

Michael - you didn't even see how I swung that deal. . . ;-)

Dawn - I think it may have something to do with the incredible things we do for their circulation. Right now I have 79 checkouts and 8 holds. ^_^ Actually, I think most of it is that we live in a small town and we're there so much that they know who we are. :)

I say, if it ain't dragging your ass away from the family because it enthralls you so, then give it back to the library.

AND, I would totally let you have whatever you wanted if I were that librarian.

Michael C said...

No, you're right. I didn't. Now I feel left out ;-)

I realized that borrowing books from the library does give a person some kind of deadline for finishing a book--I need that.

I think if an author can't say what s/he wants to say in 631 pages, then s/he needs to learn how to edit better.

Found you at Tshsmoms place. i am just wondering where you are from? You are welcome to e-mail me with that. i live in Wi too and just wondering where if you are still here. Well nice to meet you and hope you stop by sometime. You are more than welcome to stop by.

Being good to your librarians is always a good plan. That is awesome that yours lets you renew anyway. Ours are pretty cool too.

Our awesome librarian just helped me yesterday with an insane assignment that my daughter's teacher expected her to do herself. It took the librarian and me over 2 hours to find what the teacher expected my daughter (she's 9!) to do herself. Ridiculous, and if I had more patience/thought I could actually do well at it, I would probably homeschool because although I am trying really hard to like the teacher, this year it is just not happening.

Guess what? Monday at 7:30 we're going to the new student enrollment night for the TKD academy here in town! I'm so stoked.

Michael - I only hope it doesn't come back to haunt my skyrocketing political career. ^_^

Kitkat - there's definitely something ot be said for the whole deadline thing. Plus the free part. And the not having to stor it part, too. (says the lady with 12-ish bookcases and who still needs more :-P )

Yeah, I wish they'd edited out a bunch of these, but I keep reading. :-P

Tweety - Hi! :) Sadly, we're no longer in WI. Now we're in MI. We used to live in the Madison area.

Tori - That IS an awesome librarian. Our are always eager to help, too. Its really great! :) I can't imagine what that teacher was thinking. Maybe she just had no clue what a goat rope it was going to turn into. Hopefully she'll take away something valuable from all that. :-P It's hard when you're stuck with a teacher you just can't like. :-( When my stepson was in 2nd greade, we met the teacher on orientation night and told her that there would be a couple of times where we would be pulling him on a Friday so we could do things like going ot Chicago for the Shedd aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. She was NOT pleased. She was pretty damn convinced that missing even ONE day of second grade would be really problematic. Uh, yeah. Guess which days he still remembers? ^_^

Army - OMG I'm so excited for you!! YAY!!! Congratulations! That's fantastic! ^_^

I promise when your campaign kicks off not to say a word!!!! Even though lying is kinda naughty and all...

C said...

MuNKi says "you say 'naughty' like it's a bad thing." He also says "Sonny James, Running Bear." I'm wonderding if I should go wash my fingers now after typing that. ;-) He doesn't know how far you want to go. ^_^

I must find a way to show my thanks for your vow of silence.

Whoa...wait...I think MuNKi and I would be amazing song buddies. Because my heart just did a little flip reading "Sonny James, Running Bear". I own it. I know it. I play it on the gee-tar.

Oh, and I'm super excited for TKD, too!

Michael C said...

Ok,
Me, Arm and Munki need to be related. Running bear loved little white dove....

C said...

Arm - How do you people KNOW these songs? ^_^ Want to email me your school's link? (it's fine if you don't, too :) )

Michael - If you were related, then the 3-way-hot-tubbing you're about to enjoy would be a sin, so maybe not. ^_^

Michael C said...

Yes, that is very, very true. Maybe not indeed. Wait, hot-tubbing? Did I miss something? I hate being slow...
;-)

C said...

Well, ours seats 3, so I guess that's room for you and Manda and MuNKi. And music. . . ^_^

Michael C said...

OK, just tell me when! I like me warm water. Makes me thirsty though and it messes with my heart...you know what, it's worth it.

C said...

What would be on the musical menu? I'm thinking "Tiny Bubbles" . . .

Michael C said...

Yep...I was also thinking of Sinatra's 'you and me and the night and music' or something like that ;-)

C said...

Oh! And Eddie Murphy/James Brown's "Too Hot in the Hot Tub!" ^_^

Michael C said...

Yes, yes and yes!!!! I love that!!!!
