Hell

Who's an idiot? Oh, I know! I know! *jumping up and down and waving frantically* Me!! Me!! It's me!!!!!

My 4 month old laptop is where I keep all my writing. 15,000 words of one book, 6 or 7 other 1,500 - 5,000 word stories. Outlines. Notes. Oh crap - just remembered another - dunno - 10,000 or so word beginning of a book.

Was I smart enough to back it up? *shakes head*

Is the hard drive dying? *nods head*

Will it ever come back online long enough for me to slurp out my files? *weeps*

Oooh! Lookie! It's my own personal hell. :oP

The hard drive is dying on your four month old laptop? Wouldn't that be a warranty thing?

And dear God, I suck at backing up too. You've inspired me to do so when I get home. :(

Yes, Jenna! Do!!

I'm hoping dh can use the Norton jaws of life on it long enough to get my files out.

Egan, I'm not so much an apple person as a pepper person. Green and red chili peppers. Know anyone that can hook me up? ;o)

Apples are good. Damn reliable I tell you. What's all this talk about peppers?

It's the only thing that can bring me out of this funk, I tell you.

Apples can get wormy.

Okay... tomorrow something good will happen on my blog. Do you instant message yo?

I haven't ever tried IMing. Running your blog comments into the hundreds is *like* Iming, LOL!

Only thing I have is Gtalk to message my sis. But that's on *sniff* my laptop.*sob followed by full-on weeping*

*blots tears away with huge towel to re-read that first bit*
Really?? *teary smile*

s'okay your hard drive will still be intact - you should be able to retrieve everything while its fixed.

now young lady. about backups. listen to Aunty Jane - all you need is a detachable hard drive which you copy onto once a week. it takes less time to back up than it does to emit a long, slow burp.

See i got burgled 2 months ago and my laptop of 4 years was stolen. lucky Little Miss Perfect here had been backin up, eh??

egan said...

Jungle Jane - are you really talking shop with her?

C said...

Yes, Auntie!! I will!! I've learnt my lesson!

Oh great sadness. Dh says the situation is looking extremely grim with my laptop. :o( And on top of it, no chili peppers.

I'm still trying to remain in denial about losing 4 months of writing. Trying very, very hard indeed.

Candace i am here to offer geek-hope. i messed half a beer into my laptop whilst recording my first ever video post. i managed to retrieve everything - including my naughty files - no problem.

if however the worst comes true and you have lost 4 months of writing - well please feel free to simply go and cut and paste 4 months worth of my blog entries and use those instead....

Candace - I will offer support the best way I know how. I will attempt to amuse you with my next post. This really sucks about your laptop. I'm going to backup my computer as soon as I get home. Good night all!

i am *fairly* certain that back up is two words...

C said...

Thank you Jane and Egan. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :o) I am clinging to Jane's shred of beer-sodden hope and looking forward to Egan's amusing post.

C said...

Oh, and thanks for the good wishes, Bridget. :o) I'm still hoping. . .

I'm going to ditto Egan here - get a Mac...yo!

Leans down, pressing a kiss to her ibook. Such a good, good, computer.

But I'm still going to do a back up.

egan said...

Backup is two words if you're a Mac user yo! To hyphenate or use compound words always keeps me guessing and I rarely choose the correct one. I'm home now with ideas swirling around in my noggin. Buy a Mac and you will be happy, period. Listen to Jenna.

This was a hardware error, so I'm not sure a Mac would have done me any good. :o(

Basically it looks like the sector containing the "roadmap" to where the drive stored all the bits and pieces of my documents blew up. John's still trying to see if he can retrieve stuff but it's looking pretty grim.

On the bright side, I may end up with Linux on the laptop when all is said and done.

I'm crossing my fingers for you. Bon courage mon amie. Linux is cool.

Thanks! The Fat Lady hasn't sung quite yet. We shall see. . .
